Yoga

Yoga offers a variety of benefits for children.  As a form of physical fitness, it improves flexibility, coordination and strength.  Yoga teaches students to use self-calming techniques such as breathing and visualization.  Yoga also enhances children’s self-awareness, focus, concentration, discipline and self-esteem.

During each class, the students practice deep yoga breathing and are urged to breathe this way whenever they are sad, angry or scared.  The students are then led through various yoga poses.  At the end of each class, the students do a short guided meditation on a nature topic.  Meditation is very calming and can especially help at naptime or bedtime.
